Toilet Clog

What Causes Clogged Toilets?

These plumbing issues are most commonly caused by one of these two issues. Both types of clogs are common and can be easily repaired by a professional. They include:

Simple Clogs: A simple clog could be an organic material or a non-water soluble material that is flushed down the toilet. The most common simple clogs are caused by paper towels, diapers, and baby wipes that are flushed down the toilet.

Foreign Objects: This type of clog is almost exclusively caused by children. As kids experiment, they may feel drawn to flushing toys or other foreign objects to see what happens.

How to Prevent Them

There are several things you can do to prevent experiencing the inconveniences of a clogged toilet. They include:

  • Place a garbage can beside your toilet for non-water soluble items such as diapers, baby wipes, and paper towels
  • Install a childproof lock on the toilet to keep kids from flushing foreign objects
  • Use a thinner toilet paper
  • Use less toilet paper, if possible
  • Flush twice if needed

By keeping up with these best practices, you should be able to avoid clogged toilet emergencies in your home.
